Answers to common Chevrolet Suburban questions

Q: Engine not getting fuel.
Answered by Rocco
Older vehicles such as your Suburban tend to be a little easier to diagnose. If you suspect a lack of fuel to be your issue you may very well be correct. One trick you can try yourself to verify this...
Q: How often should i change my oil?
Answered by Jeff
It is recommended that your oil levels be checked every 7,500 miles with having the oil and filter changed (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/change-oil-and-filter) if needed. In general, it would be safest to change every 7,500 miles depending on driving conditions.
Q: After repairs, SUV stalls after deceleration and idles
Answered by David
Using a scan tool to access any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) may give you some direction on this. I recommend cleaning the throttle body (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/clean-throttle-body). TAC (throttle actuator control) or drive-by-wire throttles are very sensitive to dirty throttle bodies....
Q: Whistling noise over 40mph, car downshifts hard - 1996 Chevrolet K2500 Suburban
Answered by Jay
The transmission on these vehicles have many different possible problems and it sounds like you have an overrunning clutch bearing that is bad (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/loud-noise-when-using-the-clutch-inspection), which is causing it to make noise after 40mph. The problem downshifting may also be due...

Trusted by thousands of happy car owners

I have to say I am totally satisfied with the service performance and Bernard is quite professional offering details of the work which was completed. I will definitely utilize your service in the future and will recommend to family and friends.

Stephen was very professional and spoke to me in terms that I understood. Although the news about the car was not great, he explained the why's and what it would take to fix it. I will call on him again. Many thanks!

Tim was great; offered advice instead of just blindly fixing. Also Tim was super friendly and very genuine. Highly recommend!
