Q: P1743

asked by on September 25, 2016

Good morning sir.i drve an American used mazda mpv 1997. Presently it is showing obd code P1743 . What does this mean and how do I correct it. Please take note that this is Lagos Nigeria were mechanic here have little knowledge and tools to work with.

My car has 122468 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

This code is for a transmission overdrive solenoid problem. The overdrive solenoid would need to be tested to see if it has the proper resistance of 10 to 20 ohms. If it is okay then the harness will need to be checked. Also the transmission control module will need to be checked for problems and if it is okay then the module needs to be replaced. The most common problem is the overdrive solenoid and the transmission wire connections are bad or the solenoid is bad.

My Ford will go in reverse but shuts off and won't go if I put it in drive.

I was passing a truck going about 80 mph. After I took my foot off the accelerator but I continued to go faster and faster. I applied the brake, and I slowed down. When I took my foot off the brake, the car started to go faster and faster again. I Stopped at the next intersection and turned off the ignition. Started it up again and it revved like crazy, then when I started to drive again, it jerked. Stopped in a parking lot, turned off the car again, then restarted it. The engine revved again and I smelled burning rubber. My husband came and started it and it started fine. Drove fine around town. Have a Subaru Forester.

Why is newly replaced brake booster making a whistling noise and brake pedal staying depressed?

Hello, it sounds like you have a bad run with parts. That booster is leaking internally. It has nothing to do with installation. You need to get another booster, may be a different brand. Make sure your vacuum hose to...

Isn't the timing belt suppose to be changed at 90,000?

I would definitely recommend changing the timing belt at the 90,000 mile recommended interval. As you may know, the timing belt keeps your engine's critical components in sync. Fortunately, this model does NOT have what is called an "interference" engine...
