I have a 2008 Saturn vue it won’t start. Changed the starter and still nothing. It clicks when I try to start it Mechanic's Assistant: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on? From the starter it just clicks. Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Vue yourself? What have you tried so far? Replaced the starter and switched the relay

Have you had the battery load tested ? have you done a voltage drop test to the starter? have you checked voltage to start when starting?

No. Would that be the next step to do.
Automotive Expert
yes battery needs to be verified first, any auto parts store will check that for you for freeeeee

The battery is a new one and the cables are in great condition
Automotive Expert
new doesnt mean its good it needs to be checked to be sure if thats ok then voltage tests are needed

There is was power to the starter
Automotive Expert
ok so you did check with a volt meter? and what voltage was it while starting at both main and signal wire?

Automotive Expert
is it rapid clicking or one click or something else

Rapid.Oops 1
Automotive Expert
sounds like the engine is locked up, see if you can turn it over by hand at the harmonic balancer

Would it have anything to do with the relay
Automotive Expert
no, plus you told me it was ok with your voltage testing, the engine needs to be checked next

It was running great on Thursday it's been really cold out so I thought it was the battery but the lights all go on and they are brightI just think it has something to do with the starter since that is where the clicking noise is coming from but I'm checking the battery cables now
Automotive Expert
im just going by your test results check the engine next so we can continue troubleshooting

Ok.
Automotive Expert
thanks

Engine isn't locked up just checked that.
Automotive Expert
ok so the only other thing that could cause it is a bad ground from engine to frame

Ok will check that next
Automotive Expert
ok

Ok put a new starter in a new alternator and it will run for about 1/2 hour then it drains the battery even put a new battery in it. What is the problem
Automotive Expert
sounds like its not charging, whats the charging voltage at the battery and using a scanner what does the pcm see. also what codes are coming up

Taking it to the mechanics again to check the voltage. It's most likely the link from the starter to the alternator
Automotive Expert
ok

Where is this link located?
Automotive Expert
its inline on the black red wire about half way down

I need to cancel this
Automotive Expert
ok just call customer service

Thank you.
Automotive Expert
your welcome

What is the for customer service? I can't find it
