I have a Ford Fusion 2011 and I'm getting a message on my dash saying, "[power steering](/topics-power-steering/) assist fault". I can drive the car, but turning requires effort. Mechanic's Assistant: When was the fluid last checked? Have you heard any whining noises while turning the wheel? No noises when turning and this model car, according to the owner's manual, does not use power steering fluid. Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Fusion yourself? What have you tried so far? I've only investigated the fuses under the hood. I'm not a mechanic and haven't attempted anything else. Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? I've read that it may have something to do with a "rack and pinion", rusted bolts triggering the computer, loose wiring, or power steering motor failure.

This is a known problem, You vehicle should be under the recall, I can in no way say yours was one under recall but shows on my end it should be, Even if the recall was done? you still need to call dealer and let them know the problem is back etc, The recall may not have been done., Basically its changing the rack which includes the module and motor. I have attached a copy of the "owners letter" for the recall, It is a .pdf file so if using a phone? you may? need to open the file from your email . Here is that file link I hope this has helped. I do the best I can working remotely. If you have any followup to this question? I am on/off each day and will reply as soon as I am back online. Otherwise, nice speaking with you and hope you have a wonderful remainder of the day. Thanks for using Just Answer

Thanks again Randall and have a wonderful day.
