I drove from the scene of the accident to home which is about 3 miles
Automotive Expert
**ok, thats not good. at the very least you blew a head gasket, at the very worse you cracked the [engine](/topics-engine-ford/) block** **you cant go over 25mph because you have lost compression in the cylinders because one of the aforementioned things.**

System message pop up after accident low coolant
Automotive Expert
**you cant go over 25mph because you have lost compression in the cylinders because one of the aforementioned things. when the headgasket blows or the block cracks, you will loose most of the coolant**

Can those issues be repaired
Automotive Expert
**this is going to be a very expensive repair. hopefully its just the head gasket, which can be repaired. if its the block, then you will need a new engine** **is this a 4 or 6 cylinder engine?**

4

ok.

2013 Ford Escape Sel

1.6 or 2.0 engine?

I'm not sureBut I think 1.6
Automotive Expert
**ok. if its the head gasket, its an 15 hour job to replace it.**

A cracked radiator wouldn't cause that
Automotive Expert
a cracked radiator will definitely cause the overheat and coolant loss, but thats not the issue. the issue is that you drove it 3 miles while overheated and the engine got so hot it blew the head gasket or cracked the block an engine should never be driven when overheated. it should have been shut off immediately

It never drove over 25 mph even when I first drove off
Automotive Expert
that doesn't matter how fast you were going. what matters is that you drove it while it was overheating. **a combustion gas test will show that the head gasket is blown**

Hopefully that's the only problem I have full coverage car insurance
Automotive Expert
I hope so also. please keep me in the loop as to what is found. your insurance will cover the entire repair.

Ok thanks I'm going to keep you updated
Automotive Expert
you are very welcome
