Hi there. When an engine is overheating your would need to check the coolant to see if its low or not the correct temperature rating. If the coolant is good and rated to the maximum temperature, then the radiator could be plugged up, the water pump could have failed, or the thermostat may be sticking shut. Also, if your vehicle has electric cooling fans, see if the fans are working or not. A failed cooling fan will cause the engine to overheat. If all of the conditions to make an engine overheat are in good condition, then the head gasket, cracked head, or cracked block can cause the engine to overheat. I recommend seeking out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you diagnose your engine overheating issue.
