Q: My car won't shift into 3rd, 4th, and reverse.

My 94 Nissan pu 5spd trans was shifting fine until this past weekend. It wont shift into 3rd, 4th gears an reverse. I check fliud it was low so l topped it off...it still not shifting into 3rd 4th gears an reverse..shifts fine into 1st 2nd 5th

My car has 175600 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

Hi there. The gears 3rd and 4th are both on the main shaft inside the transmission. Those gears have a synchronizer that connects the gears together. The reverse gear does not have a synchronizer to make the gear work. It sounds like that the reverse gear has chipped a tooth and caused the main shaft gears to grind out the synchronizer. I recommend seeking out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to observe the issue with your transmission.

Do you think it is the starter
Hello there, thanks for your question. I believe you are correct in the fact that the starter is most likely your issue (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-starter). If all the lights, windows, radio, and wipers all function properly as they should, most likely the...
when I cut the wheel all the way on my truck it slows me down and I have to give it a decent amount of gas to get it to move

Hello - your "noisy lifters" (https://www.yourmechanic.com/question/noisy-lifters) could have a couple of causes: worn out lifters (they're hydraulic by the way, not adjustable), or poor oil supply to them. Poor oil supply could be a blocked oil passage, worn out oil...

A whole created by rust on the rear beam axle of my VW MK4 Golf GTI. Should I get it welded or buy a new rear beam axle?
I would suggest replacing the axle beam. As you may know, rust acts a bit like a cancerous contaminant to metal and is very difficult to remove entirely once it sets in. As the Iron oxide forms when the iron...
I overfilled my engine with engine oil
If you overfilled the engine oil you may have got oil into the tops of the pistons and fouled the spark plugs. Once you adjusted oil level and start the car again it will blow smoke for a while until...
