Good morning Jarrett. Nice to see you today! I'm sorry to hear you are having this problem. I know this can be frustrating. Please give me one moment to type out some information for you. Sit tight one minute. I'll be right back !

Okay
Automotive Expert
Thank you for holding Jarrett, The common cause for the type of jerking you are feeling on this 2003 Impreza is usually due to a binding CV joint in one or both of the rear-drive [axles](/topics-axle/) or in some cases excessive play in the rear differential. At either rate, this could result in a fairly expensive repair. I would insist on this being checked and repair before you consider making this purchase. If the seller in not able and or will willing to do this for you then you would be very wise to take the car to your trusted mechanic and have a complete prepurchase inspection performed to verify this is not a major repaired needed.

Okay, so this is what I could be feeling when hitting the gas? It doesn't seem to do it unless taking off
Automotive Expert
Yes, your only feeling it when taking off because you are likely taking up the slack if in fact, the axle is the cause. I would have it inspected first before you consider this purchase.

Okay thank you for the information
Automotive Expert
You're very welcome, Jarrett, Glad I could be of some help today! I hope everything works out well for you! If there are any additional questions on this issue that should arise, please feel free to reply and ask! Have a great day.

Hi, I talked to the seller he said it dosent jerk under normal driving conditions just went giving it extra gas, could the [fuel pump](/topics-fuel-pump/) just be the culprit?
Automotive Expert
It's not likely a fuel pump concern if the engine runs with full power under load Jarrett, If it does not then a fuel pressure test would need to be done while the problem is occurring.

Okay, and what about the possibility of a vacuum leak / turbo leak causing the jerk?
Automotive Expert
If you had a vacuum leak or a turbo leaking the check engine light would be on and there would be fault codes set as well.

Just trying to eliminate as many things as possible
Automotive Expert
If you do not have a check engine light on then the problem is not likely with the electronic engine control system.

Dealer is saying my exhaust manifold needs fixing. 75,000 miles only. Should I get a second testing from an independent source?
You did not state the model or engine but I would say the exhaust manifold (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-exhaust-manifold) may have a crack or is warped. The dealer would not say you need a manifold unless a problem was noted. There has been...
