Q: Transmission shifter won't shift into any gear.

asked by on December 14, 2016

I replaced my clutch disc, pressure plate, fly wheel and pull out bearing but now truck won't shift when motor is on but stick shift moves in all gears when the motors off.pedal felt spongy so i bled the clutch fluid (dot3) and managed to get the pedal a little harder but still no luck. I see my master cylinder has a bad seal and leaks out the end the push rod goes through. Also my slave cylinder has the throw out bearing connected to it and I noticed the bearing was in bad shape and hesitantly left it because i could afford the new one.i feel likei can't shift exams of these two things but im seeking further diagnostic advice to know for certain before dropping the tranny once again to find out something else was missed.

My car has 159000 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

Hi there. Go under the vehicle and check the slave cylinder to your clutch system. The cylinder may be leaking causing the pedal to be spongy and not able to become firm due to excessive air in the system. Check over the whole system and check for any exterior leaks. Replace the parts that are either leaking or broken. If you need further assistance with your clutch not working, then seek out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you.

If you are still getting the P0720 code (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p0720-obd-ii-trouble-code-output-speed-sensor-circuit-malfunction-by-brady-klopfer) after replacing the sensor then you should verify the wiring connection first to the sensor and also in between the sensor and ECM. Remove the sensor and turn the drive shaft....
While I'm driving, my vehicle makes a hissing noise when it shifts, it will go away sometimes.
Hello. If the noise occurs right before the transmission shifts, then it can be caused by a few things. Depending on how it sounds, it can be a loose belt that is slipping when the vehicle is getting ready to...

Knocking noise valve clatter
Hello. It's quite possible, even likely, that the crankshaft bearing journals are worn out of specification. Replacing the rod bearings only does not compensate for a worn crankshaft rod (or main) bearing journal. It's also possible the oil pump pressure/volume...
The transmission went out on my 2010 GMC Terrain, at 55,000 miles, with no warning. Last year, under a recall, I had the timing fixed.
Hi there. With the limited detailed information that is provided about your situation, I can input that the transmission may have had a fluid leak or the vehicle was used for pulling a trailer that was overloaded. The transmission in...
High idle problem.
High engine idle can result from things like vacuum leaks, a dirty or faulty idle air control valve or potentially an improperly adjusted throttle stop. The idle air control valve (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/idle-control-valve-replacement) reads the air intake as it is mixed with...
No warning lights, no smoke even when under load, turbo working, intercooler ok, injectors cleaned, no power, all filters clean.
Some possibilities are low engine compression, defective throttle position sensor, a timing advance malfunction, fuel pressure problem, vacuum leak, malfunctioning oxygen sensors and so forth. Of course, it's possible that you could have a combination of faults. Please note that...
