03 Saturn VUE 3.0 V6 timing belt broke. Is it worth the time and money to replace and retime it only to find out I have bent valves? Mechanic's Assistant: How many miles are on the timing belt? Have you ever had to change it before? I have no idea how old it was but the car has 260000. Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Vue yourself? What have you tried so far? I would give it a shot but its interference engine so I'm concerned if its even worth it.

Hi Jim. Nice to see you today! I'm sorry to hear you are having this problem. I know this can be frustrating. Please give me one moment to type out some information for you. Sit tight one minute... I'll be right back! Thanks for holding, Jim. Unfortunately, the 2003 Saturn Vue with the 3.0L engine is in fact an interference engine. So, if the belt were to break while under load, there is a strong chance that the valves can be damaged. Given the year of the vehicle, and the fact that replacing the belt is almost a 5 hour job, and that Saturn went out of business years ago... it might not be worth the time and effort. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news here, Jim. It's never easy to tell someone it's not worth the repair to a vehicle.

That's what I was expecting to hear anyway. Thanks
