My 2006 Eddie bauer explorer always takes 2 to 3 times to start. When i try to start it the first time it seems like it doesn't rev up or get enough gas, my lights all turn on but no running car. I just replaced the fuel pump 2 months ago Mechanic's Assistant: Just to clarify, what are the exact lights you're talking about? On the dash and my radio just the normal stuff that turns on when you start your car Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Explorer yourself? What have you tried so far? The wrench symbol popped up yesterday and also my check ingine light. I was going to hopefully have a local mechanic friend fix it once I can figure out what's wrong. Haven't tried anything yet

Hello and thank you for your question. My name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I am happy to assist you today. I am a Ford Senior Master Technician. Sorry to hear you are having problems today. Give me just a moment to review your post, and I'll be right back with the help you need. <u><em><strong>The Web Site will prompt a phone call , I only work with online chat</strong></em></u>. It sounds like, from your description, that the fuel is draining back to the fuel tank when the [engine](/topics-engine-ford/) is off. There is a check valve built into the fuel pump assembly that keeps the fuel in the fuel lines to the engine. Try this and see if the engine starts right up with no problems. Turn the key to on, not start, and leave it there for 5 seconds, then turn it off and repeat this 3 times. Then try to start the engine. If it starts right up, then the fuel pump will need to be replaced. I know you had it replaced 2 months ago, but we have had brand new Ford fuel pumps fail right out of the box.

Also the wrench symbol popped up yesterday late afternoon. I've never seen that before that one is new.

That wrench light shows that there are trouble codes in the engine computer.

Could that cause issues with my car starting? Sometimes it starts right up no problems. And when I'm driving it tries excellentdrives
Automotive Expert
A bad check valve only effects the car starting after sitting for a while.

Yeah it doesnt matter if its overnight or 5 mins. But the weird thing is sometime it starts right up for a few days no problems. It all starts 3 weeks agoThis morning my dad went out and it started right up he did it 3 times no problem
Automotive Expert
Then have is checked for trouble codes. Any auto parts store can do this for you for free if you do not have access to a code reader or scan tool.

Ok thank you so much. I do have access to a reader.
Automotive Expert
Great. Check the trouble codes and post thme on this page when you have time. I can help you narrow down the actual cause of the problem.

text you back one I have it checked?
Automotive Expert
Yep, just reply back on this page.

They also checked my battery and [alternator](/topics-alternator-ford/).

OK. I see the battery failed by their tester results you posted. As for the P062F, that is a code for the Mechatronics unit in the [transmission](/topics-transmission-ford/) which is basically an electronic valve body. But a bad battery can be the cause of that code and the problems you are having. Get the battery replaced and clear the trouble codes. Then drive it and see if the problem returns. If the P062F returns, you will have to have the Mechatronics unit in the transmission replaced.

How do u go about clearing the trouble codes? I'm heading to autozone now for a new battery
Automotive Expert
To clear the trouble codes you can disconnect the battery for 10 minutes or use a code reader or scan tool to clear them properly.

I got a new battery and the wrench symbol went away but its still having trouble starting. If I don't rev it after I start it it stalls. Auto zone did say that my alternator was going out
Automotive Expert
Did they show you the voltage output of the alternator?

Yeah I sent it to u with the battery pic yesterday
Automotive Expert
OK\> Sorry, That voltage reading on the alternator is in specs. I would not replace it. Try cleaning out the throttle body before replacing any more parts.

Ok thank you. The battery had also been leaking battery acid ate threw my connectors on top the battery i gotta get new ones tomorrow
Automotive Expert
Yikes.

What would cause 2 main computers to be bad within 6months
This does sound like a very frustrating experience. Unfortunately it is difficult to pinpoint exactly what is causing your computer to go bad (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-long-does-an-engine-control-module-ecm-last) without knowing what kind of computers have been installed in your vehicle. Aftermarket, used or refurbished...
