It very well may be a failing battery. The modules in your Escape need voltage to operate. When they do not get the proper voltage, they will basically freak out and cause lights to flicker on and off as the modules try to power up.
Try jump starting the battery or putting it on a battery charger.

I had the doors of the car open while I cleaned it and the interior lights were on the whole time. When I went to crank it it just clicked like the battery was dead but the lights would also come on. Then when I turned the car off and took out the key, the headlights started flickering and there was a rapid clicking noise inside the car that I couldn't make stop. It did stop eventually, but it went on for probably half an hour

That is a weak or bad battery.
Leaving the doors open will drain the battery.
Try charging it or jump starting it from another vehicle.
