Ok, you could go to like advanced auto or autozone O'Reily and they will scan it for free and tell you the codes, or you can just purchase one in store, these are known for the intake or [exhaust](/topics-exhaust-gmc/) solenoids going bad and from what your symptoms are, it sounds likely the best thing to do since your engine light did pop on is to get the codes, and from there you can probably fix this issue yourself as I can walk you through it
