Q: Cut off while driving

asked by on August 06, 2016

Wife had just filled up with gas, drove about 10 miles and the car just shut off. Wont crank or start. Battery was tested and good, all lights come on, radio etc... Fuel pump comes on when the key is turned. Not sure if it's the starter or maybe the switch under the clutch pedal. Had the car for 12 years and never had a problem.

My car has 103065 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

Based on the information you provided, it does seem like your clutch switch may be faulty. You may have another cause for the no-start. Read the DTC’s (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) to determine if you have another component that needs testing. If you still need help, a certified technician, like one from YourMechanic, will be able to determine the exact cause of your stalling issue and get your car running normally again.

my 1995 lexus sc400 is having some issues. i just got it back from aamco for a rebuild on the transmission. when i got it back the speedometer will periodically stop working and will occasionally wiggle and shake. at highway speeds it will be erratic and flop around. the transmission shifts hard into overdrive and sometimes coming from a complete stop it feels like it’s bogging out and not wanting to go. it’s like it doesn’t know when to shift.

E85 flex fuel sensor

The E85 sensor can give the engine computer the wrong indication of the type of fuel being used and the ignition timing will be incorrect. This can cause stalling, hesitations, rough running and other symptoms.

The steering shaft (I believe it's the intermediate shaft) disengaged from the steering column.

when in reverse the car gets stuck or its hard backing up.

Hi there. For your car this is the first sign of transmission failure. When the car starts having issues going in reverse, either it has burnt out internal clutches, or the gear housing is cracked and binding. Either way, you...
