It is possible \both concerns are related. Have you checked to see if the belt is slipping, loose, or broken and gone? The alternator and power steering pump are both belt-driven accessories. If the belt is fine then we will needs some tools to diagnose with like a voltmeter and hydraulic pressure test gauge.
Thank you for seeking us for help, I hope I provided what was needed. Press reply if you need to follow up. If you liked my answer please let me know so I can mark your question complete. Moose

With no tools to test with you will not be able to determine if the concern is to blame on an alternator failure and or power steering pump failure. It may be best to let a shop handle the diagnostics and repairs so you are not guessing at which parts to replace.

Overheating is a very serious situation. Too much heat could severely damage your engine. If the needle of your temperature gauge is pushing into the red, here’s what you need to do: Find a safe place to pull over. Put...
Initially, check the engine oil for correct level and smell it for a gas smell. If the engine oil level is low, add oil until it is correct. If it smells like gas, then you likely have another issue. Regardless,...
The code P0455 (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p0455-obd-ii-trouble-code-system-gross-leak-evaporative-emission-by-john-nelson) is an indication that the fuel system cannot hold vapor pressure when it is put into testing. This means you have a leak somewhere. Since you did not have the issue before you had worked on...
Hi there. Unfortunately, without being there to physically inspect the vehicle, it's hard to pinpoint the precise cause of the engine failure. However, one thing I can say without hesitation is that rewiring your vehicle's cooling fan was not the...
Hey there, thanks for writing in about your 1998 Altima. You may have a crankshaft (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/crankshaft-position-sensor-replacement) or camshaft sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/camshaft-position-sensor-replacement) causing the no start. You can scan the computer and watch the data to see if one or both of...
A rough idle may be caused by many different things such as low fuel pressure, low voltage to the fuel injectors, dirty fuel injectors, a vacuum leak, a faulty Oxygen sensor or a dirty or failing idle air control valve....
Hello - I suspect that either the flange joint after the converter has a defect (https://www.yourmechanic.com/question/-i-have-replaced-my-exhaust-manifold-a-half-dozen-times-why-is-this-happening-by-stephen-k) that continues to leak, despite new gaskets, or the muffler is stopped up, increasing exhaust pressure on that joint. I recommend an exhaust system...
Yes, your vehicle has a MAP sensor but the code P2172 (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p2172-obd-ii-trouble-code-throttle-actuator-control-system-sudden-high-airflow-detected-by-spencer-clayton) can set due to quite a few issues other than the MAP sensor such as a stuck-open throttle plate, a failed throttle body, a vacuum leak, and/or an...
