Good evening, my name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* ill be helping you, so sorry to hear about the issues here on the vehicle, i know how frustrating it can be to deal with overheating especially if we have been dealing with this for awhile. If the engine does not start overheating until its been idling for awhile then its most likely your water pump as a thermostat would take longer to overheat than having it just sit. that being said a thermostat is not costly and these parts are usually replaced together so i would recommend we get both replaced at the same time.

ok what would cause the heat not to work cause when i was diagnosing the other day i noticed that the heat doesnt work now but the a/c does

yes it would although that indicates more of a thermostat, but again i would recommend replacing both here.
