Luis showed up a half hour early which was great. He was very friendly and courteous. I had gotten to my house only a few minutes before he did which meant the engine was still very hot when he started. Nevertheless, he went right to work changing out the water pump which is buried under the engine block. He finished the job in less than a half an hour and my car isn't making weird noises anymore.
