I have a 2002 Ford Taurus and it has been running great until I recently had the back brakes and cylinders done. Now the traction control light cuts on and off when I accelerate and now my car won't accelerate over 40mph, it feels like it will stop at any moment when I try to go over 40mph. I truly believe that the mechanic that did my back brakes caused this issue how much would it cost me to get it fixed and can it be diagnosed?
My car has 155000 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

If the traction control light has come on, there may be stored trouble codes and those codes will help resolve this. The loss of power you are experiencing may just be coincidental to the rear brake work. If the rear brakes (discs or drums) are not hot (you can use an infrared thermometer or just get "close") after driving at 40 MPH for a while and then stopping, then it is unlikely the brakes are sticking. Of course if the brakes are hot in such a test, you might suspect that the brakes are dragging. In any event, it will be easy to rule in or out a rear brake issue. If you want the required diagnostic tests performed by a certified Mechanic, dispatched by YourMechanic right to your location, please request a loss of power inspection/diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will get the entire problem resolved for you. That diagnostic includes all causes of loss of power and thus the mechanic will test the rear brakes as well to see if they are sticking. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic as we are always here to help you.
