I have a 2017 Toyota [Corolla](/topics-corolla/) IM with 80k miles and I keep getting the oil pressure light come on and off. It was taken to precision tune to get a diagnostic done and it had 2 codes that were a concern which was a crankshaft sensor and also a camshaft sensor. Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the oil? How old is your oil pump? Oil is fine . Even did an oil chang on it but it’s still doing the same Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Corolla yourself? What have you tried so far? I am. I have done an oil change. Replaced the crankshafts sensor . They also recommended the camshaft sensor but I just don’t want to keep putting mine in it if it’s not going to fix the problem Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? There also seems to be some rattling on the [engine](/topics-engine-toyota/) at tomes

when the oil light flashes is the oil full?

cam and crank sensor will not cause a oil light either you have a bad oil pressure switch or a internal issue like a oil pump or crank bearing failure

That's what I thought as well. That why I only decided to change the crankshaft sensor. Not the camshaft. I took precision tunes advice on the diagnostic suggesting to replace both cam and crank sensor but it just didn't seem right to me so just replaced the crankshaft sensor. That's why I'm looking into further help. My check engine light is not on and sometimes it runs fine and sometimes at a stop light it'll turn off but it'll turn back on and it'll be fine.

I would want to solve the oil light issue..May be a wise move to change the oil switch

It's that something I can do? Would that be the reason of the rattling on the engine sometimes? Also, would an oil compression test tell me if it's something more internal?
Automotive Expert
is it losing oil? a oil consumption test is nothing but a journal of oil loss its checking the oil and documenting how much it used..people try to act like its some big elaborate test

No it's not losing oilIt's been idling for a bit now and I notice when I accelerate, the oil pressure light comes on.
Automotive Expert
then a oil consumotion test will not tell you anything its simply a dipotick reading every 500 miles or so and written down

Oh okwhat would you recommend I do? I'm at the point of just replacing the engine.
Automotive Expert
yea start with a oil pressure switch

Ok and let's say the problem continúes what would you recommend then?
Automotive Expert
then its likley going to need the oil pan taken off and the oil pump and crank bearings checked.. may be wiser to replace the engine if the oil pressure is low

Ok John thanks for your help .

I noticed my starter sounds like it's having trouble catching the engine. is it the starter or just the solenoid?
