Grinding on flywheel from starter
Automotive Expert
If the starter is coming apart while driving, the issue, more likely, is that the starter is staying engaged and running on the flywheel then blowing up. Usually the starter relay can cause the starter to stay engaged. Or a starter not being hooked up correctly cause cause the soleniod to remain energized .

Well that starter that came a part wasnt grinding. It only started grinding aftwr i replaced it with a true manual starter from the auyo storeHousing didnt separate it was the back side of it where the 2 small bolts held it together

What about the other starters you put in it?

The all grind. Ive gone through 3 of them.

Its grinding on the lip on the starter

There must have been a starter that was working correctly for a while. What was the original reason the original starter was replaced before all this happened?

Idk. I bought car that had a junk yard motor and trans in it with 50k miles. I figured they tried putting a manual trans on a auto engine. But idk.Should i try to shim it. I have another flywheel off of my 97 spyder gs and my bolts arent long enough for the mount
Automotive Expert
I suppose you could try that. I was wondering if there was maybe supposed to be a plate between the engine and transmission.

There was on this one but not on the old transmission
Automotive Expert
Ok. Hard to know the story of this vehicle and what lead up to this issue. But it does look like that the starter may be too close to the flywheel.

Ok i figure so. I have 2 starters coming tomorrow 1 auto 1 manual to compare them. Idk what else it to. It driving me nut. My fb page everyone says just shim the starter.Didnt mean to send that video

Without knowing much about the history of the engine and trans and what goes where, and from what years, your best bet is to probably shim the starter and see if that helps.

Ok ill try that and see what happens
Automotive Expert
ALright. You can come back here and let me know the outcome. Or if you need some more info. Thanks.
