Q: I have to pop clutch to start car

asked by on February 12, 2016

My car does not start unless I pop the clutch.

Hello. By the description of your problem, there can be several causes. Make certain that your battery is in good condition, and that your lights and accessories come on normally. If your lights dim when you try to key start your car, your battery may be weak, or your starter is worn, and requires more power to activate. Check all of your fuses. If this problem persists after checking these things, then take the VW to a qualified technician for further diagnosis and repair of your starting issue](https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/car-is-hard-to-start-inspection), so as not to waste time and money on unneeded parts.
