Q: For past week vehicle said "key not in vehicle" and I'd have to insert fob into key compartment. Now won't start, no power

asked by on December 27, 2017

For the past week or so my car hasn't been reading my key/fob and says "key not in vehicle". I then have to insert the fob into the key compartment/ignition in order to start the vehicle. The car has started up and powered on with no problems, until today. Today there was no power, no lights, no ding sound when I pressed the start/stop.. nothing, just dead. I thought battery so I charged it up and it read "fully charged" (the headlights did flicker on momentarily when I first hooked the battery up to the charger). Once charged I went to start up and nothing still. No power, no lights, nothing. I checked all of the 40amp and less fuses (not sure how to check the 60a and up). I checked all fuses in the drivers, and passenger side fuse compartments, and also the 2 compartments in the engine. I'm not sure if the key fob issue is related, just wanted to be thorough. The car has absolutely no power at all, the brake pedal is "locked" and nothing happens with the start/stop button

My car has 74000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
