Loud humming noise coming from the front end, gets louder the faster you go. If I turn to the right while driving the sound goes away until I straighten back up. When I turn left, the noise doesn't change at all. I have jacked up both sides in front and there is no play in the wheels. Also while jacked up I put it in nutreul and the passenger wheel turns freely but feels like a little bit more resistance then drivers side. Mechanic's Assistant: Do you have power steering? Have you checked the power steering fluid? I'm pretty sure I have power steering, it steers perfectly fine. It's a 2009 Chevy HHR. Everyone says hub bearing but like I said, the isn't any play when I Jack it up and try to wiggle it Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your HHR yourself? What have you tried so far? I am planning to try to fix it myself. I just had a rear suspension problem I fixed, as it was the [shocks](/topics-shock-chevy/) where worn off. Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? The noise I hear doesn't sound like any powers steering pump whine I've ever heard before

Good Afternoon, my name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* ill be helping you, so sorry to hear about the issues here on the HHR, i know how frustrating it can be to deal strange noises, By the way you describe the symptoms i also suspect a bad wheel bearing on the passenger side. Play in the wheel is not the only indicator of a bad bearing and it makes perfect sense with your other symptoms. When we turn to the right we are putting load on that bearing which is why the noise goes away, and the fact that it gets louder when you go faster means that the bearing is bad internally. id recommend we get it replaced soon before it gets bad to the point that it does have play.

Ok I had a feeling that's what it was but I wanted to get done confirmation before I dropped the money on it. Thank you
Automotive Expert
yeah no problem, im happy to help.

Would you say it the passenger side that needs replacing? And would it be a good idea to go ahead and replace both?
Automotive Expert
the noise goes away when you turn right correct?I ask because if the noise goes away when turning to the right it’ll be the left or drivers side bearing that is bad. you can just replace the one side that is bad.

when I am going through a right hand turn the noise goes away completely until I straighten back out.Sorry for the delay I am working right now too
Automotive Expert
No worries. If the noise goes away when you turn right it’ll be the left bearing that is bad and you can just replace the one.

Ok dang I'm glad I asked bc I was thinking right bearing. Do you know if I need any special tools
Automotive Expert
No, no special tools needed

Ok great. Thank you for the information. I am somewhat mechanically inclined, do you think I should be able to do it myself without to much trouble
Automotive Expert
should be yes. it’s not very hard but sometimes the parts can seize and make it hard to get it done by that’s usually if you live in the rust belt. if you live in a mild climate should be pretty simple.

Ok that's great. I have changed a CV axle on my previous vehicle without much trouble. Ok great. Thank you for the information. If I hadn't asked I would have changed the wrong side. The part will be here either Monday or Tuesday. Is I have any questions while I'm changing it am I able to reach you on this number? I may not need any help but just in caseI live about 1 mile from the beach so it's a pretty humid climate.
Automotive Expert
you can reach out to me here and I’ll get it. usually salt and snow is what does it in, so you should be good

Fantastic. Again, thank you a ton. Doing a Google search about it sent me down s rabbit hole that never really clarified anything lol.
Automotive Expert
Yeah no problem.

No oil pressure.
If your oil level is where it needs to be, there is proper oil filter installed, and there are no leaks, this would indicate a bad oil pump or possibly bad crankshaft main bearings. If the engine runs without knocking, smoking or other...

Car will not start when the engine is hot.
Hi there.
