A 5.3 is one of the baby LS [engines](/topics-engine-chevy/). I would consider a larger engine, say 6.0, before adding turbos.
Some head work, bowl work, 5 angle seats, and a [camshaft](/topics-camshaft-chevy/) upgrade are also some options.

Both terms within the cylinder head.
The bowl is the area under the valve seat in the valve guide area. The valve seat area and time spent here is most beneficial.
Typically, a valve seat might have 3 angles. A seat of 45 degrees, a top angle of 30 degrees, and a bottom or throat angle of 60 degrees. Extending this to 5 angles makes the valve seat smoother to airflow.
