When moving my truck forwards and reverse, I am getting a wicked squeal. I'm not turning the wheels either. It gets worse while I'm reversing. Mechanic's Assistant: Do you have power steering? Have you checked the power steering fluid? Yes I have fluid. It's coming from the wheel hub. Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? 2000 GMC Sierra Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far? I am trying to diagnose what the cause is. The callipers seem fine. I also have new brake pads put on. I can't move the truck without it squealing. It's sounds like it may be the bearing but when I did drive it yesterday there was no rattle or shake in the truck. My check engine light is on along with my ABS light. Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? That should be everything.

Now let's get started! where is the noise coming from? can you post a video of the issue?

The noise is coming from around the rotor. I could feel it in the steering wheel. I don't know if it's the bearing, callipers or pads. I put my finger where the pads are and the pads are touching against the rotors and the brakes aren't applied. It gets worse as I'm reversing.
Automotive Expert
have you pulled the wheel yet? sounds like a seized caliper to me

That's what I was thinking. I can't pull the wheel off because I have no access to a jack. I don't want to move the truck anymore because my ABS and Check Engine light came on.
Automotive Expert
then you will need to buy a jack or have it towed

What would a bad bearing feel like when the truck is in motion. All I feel on the wheel is a slight rumble when it does start to squeal.
Automotive Expert
a rumble or a growl

I may have a bad bearing then. Because when I was my truck the sound went away for about a day or 2.
Automotive Expert
yea when they go bad and get loose you will have all sorts of weird issues

Could I send a video to this number or does it have to be on the website?
Automotive Expert
sure

sounds like a wheel bearing from here

It sounds terribly loud. But it doesn't get worse when turning. It stays the same all the way through.
Automotive Expert
need to get it jacked up nd check for play

I will do that. Thank you for the help.

To temporarily override the system, see these instructions (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-shut-off-the-anti-theft-device-in-your-car-by-jason-unrau).
