Answers to common BMW 3.0Si questions

Q: Starting problems, transmission stuck on 2007 BMW 530xi
Answered by Blake
Hi. A battery light on the dashboard is the number one sign of a bad alternator (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/alternator-replacement). The alternator keeps the battery charged. Without a strong power source, some features on the vehicle may not function properly, which may set...
Q: Car not starting up
Answered by Tim
Hi there. When you turn the key and the cars engine will not crank over, it is caused by one of three independent components; the ignition relay, the starter or the battery. Since you attempted to jump start the car,...
Q: Check Engine Light NOT coming on during start-up
Answered by John
When you turn on the key, the check engine light should be on, this is a bulb check function. As you know, the check engine light has to be working to pass inspection. The bulb may be out, or it...
Q: Pong sounds coming from the front end
Answered by Blake
Hello. The issue you are describing could be the sound of a worn strut (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/strut-assembly-replacement), worn strut mount, or noisy axle (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/axle-cv-shaft-assembly-replacement). There is also a possibility that the sway bar end links (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/stabilizer-bar-links-replacement) are causing the noise. I suggest...

Trusted by thousands of happy car owners

A++ Highly recommended! Bryce was very professional, knowledgeable and punctual. He explained to me in detail exactly what he did and showed me the parts he replaced. I will definitely be booking Bryce for my next appointment.

I have to be honest, this was the first time that, I have EVER felt 'at-ease' around an auto mechanic. Jonas was thorough and straight forward with me about the issues; gave me a quote directly after doing the diagnostics on the car and, as it turned out, it cost me less than the original estimate. When does that ever happen with auto repairs ?? He was friendly, informative and knowledgeable. You folks made the whole experience convenient and painless. I'm "sold" on the "Your Mechanic" concept. I'll probably never take my car again to a traditional mechanic !! Jonas was a pleasure to deal with !

Milton was great! Called to let me know when he'd be arriving. Very friendly & very thorough with his explanations. Took his time to make sure, double, triple check that everything was running properly. Very pleasant experience!
