Disabled Driver Laws and Permits in Wyoming

If you live in the State of Wyoming, and you have a disability, then you can get special permits that will allow you to park in special spots and also enjoy other privileges that are not available to you under ordinary circumstances.

Type of Permits

In Wyoming, there are several provisions for handicapped parking spaces, plates and placards. You can qualify for:

  • A permanent disability placard
  • A permanent disability plate
  • A temporary disability placard
  • A disabled veteran plate

In order to qualify, you have to have a vehicle that is registered in your name.

Visitors

If you are visiting Wyoming, then the state will recognize any disability plates or placards from another state. You do not have to apply for a permit or placard in Wyoming. On the other hand, if you are leaving the State of Wyoming to travel elsewhere, then generally speaking, other states will honor the provisions that you are entitled to in the State of Wyoming.

Fees

Fees are as follows:

  • You can get a your disability placard replaced at no cost.
  • License plates can be purchased at the standard rate.

Applying

To apply for a disability placard or plate, you must fill out the Application for Handicapped Vehicle Identification Placard and mail it to the address below or bring it to a driver exam office.

Disabled veteran plates

If you are a disabled veteran then you will have to fill out the Application for Military Related Plates and provide proof from the Veteran’s Association that at least half of your disability is related to your military service. If you are approved, you will not have to pay any fees.

Renewal

Temporary placards are good for six months, and can be renewed once by re-applying. Permanent placards are good for a year, and before it expires, you will be notified by mail. Then all you have to do is fill out and return your renewal notice.

If you are a person with a disability in the State of Wyoming, then you are entitled to certain rights and privileges under state law. Keep in mind, though, that you will not just be given these rights and privileges – you have to apply for them, and fill out the appropriate paperwork. Otherwise, they will not be given to you.
