Is there any additive that will prolong the life and operation of a manual gearbox

Hello, my name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I will be helping you with your question today. I've been working on VWs for over 30 years now, so I should be able to help you through this. I'll say that despite all of these advertising claims, there is no additive that is better than just using a high quality manual gear oil. If you can provide me the 17 character VIN, I can definitely offer suggestions on the best gearbox lubricant to use.

I know that some friction is needed for the selectors to work but I have been told that liquimoly ceratec at 1% dilution is good. It has very little mos2 which I believe is a problem with gearboxes. I don't know my vin but it is a mk7 1.4 petrol manual.I will stick with the oil that the VW dealer put in during my gearbox replacement two weeks ago. I am sure that they put the right one in. I tow a camper so wanted to give my gearbox a little loving but if you say stick with the VW spec oil I will.

Unfortunately, in order for me to look up the specific gearbox in the car, it's going to be tough for me to offer a proper recommendation. However, in my experience, the OE VW/Audi gear oils are best. There are certain situations where I recommend certain Motul products, but that's typically for gearboxes with limited-slip differentials, which I'm assuming your car does not have.

Thank you mate. That is what is in it now. I put the liquimoly ceratec in my engine oil (the special Castrol VW oil) and it seems to be smoother. Is it ok to put it in the VW engines? My VW specialist said it was fine.

I'm also ok with that, although I don't think it's particularly necessary. However, not harmful.

Cheers.. Appreciate your help. Will just stick with the VW oil and change every 15 000 km.
