Q: Truck won't stay running

asked by on November 06, 2016

The battery kept dying and it would die really quick. I parked it and the truck died. So i replaced the alternator. I jumped it and let it run for a couple of minutes when I came back to it none of the gauges worked and neither did any other controls on the instrument panel. The lights on the instrument panels wouldn't work either. It started to idle down so I gave it throttle and would die without any throttle. The only way it would stay running is if I constantly gave it throttle. I let it die and then The lights came on on the instrument panel. Now the headlights won't turn off and it won't start do to a bad battery.

My car has 197000 miles.

I have checked the oil level and the oil level on the dipstick is far over 'maximum'. Should I carry out a full service?
You should find out the reason the oil is overfull. If the oil is contaminated with water then you may have a head gasket blown. If the oil is contaminated with fuel then you may have a fuel injection system...

My 2009 Equinox is overheating intermittently. It overheated in the summer and tnen not again for 3 months then twice in one week
Check the coolant level to be sure it is adequate. Of course, if the coolant level is low enough to cause overheating, you may have a coolant leak (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/coolant-is-leaking-inspection). If the overheating is intermittent that would point to a possibly...
