Q: Trouble starting my car - 1998 Toyota Camry

asked by on September 12, 2017

I recently bought this car. It had been sitting for almost a year, and then received a new battery to get it working again. It was fine this summer until the fall weather cooled down. Now in the cooler hours of the day, the ignition clicks the first turn, and then usually starts on the 3rd or 4th try, especially if I press the gas pedal. This has been true now for about a week. The battery is only months old, and it always starts eventually. What are the most likely issues that could be investigated?

My car has 241000 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

I have a Kia Ceed. Petrol battery is dead. Can a diesel battery fit?
Hi, thanks for your question. I'd be happy to help. The diesel battery may be heavy duty compared to the petrol engine. The two batteries should be compared for size and height to be the same and the terminals (https://www.yourmechanic.com/parts/battery-terminal)...
