Good morning.
He is wrong, there won't be a light because this has a cable.
You might have to arrange to leave the car with him overnight if the problem only happens first thing in the morning. That way he should be able to check it.
Don't be afraid to take it to someone else, you do have an issue that needs to be addressed here.

It's got to be the next step. Most mechanics don't like to just put parts on the car without diagnosing it first. So, if it's not acting up for him, he's probably not going to want to just put parts on it.

Cleaning the throttle won't hurt anything that's for sure. Then if the problem continues, replace the cable.
