When parked if I slightly turn the [steering](/topics-steering/) wheel back and forth like gyrating it, the car makes a slight clunk noise that you can’t feel in the steering wheel but can be felt in the wheel/tire as well as the left outer tie rod. I just had the outer tie rod replaced so that is not the problem. It also makes a clunk when driving slow over a bump

Hello this is Zach, I will assist you today. You may receive a message suggesting a phone call, it is an automated message from Just Answer. It is optional. The shaking of the steering wheel you are describing sounds like it could be a few things. First, try tightening the 2 bolts in the steering rag joint. It is the part that connects the steering column to the rack. Those bolts can slightly loosen causing the clunking in the steering you have. You mentioned the left outer tie rod was replace, but you can still feel play in the tie rod. How about the right side, can you feel any play there?

I did not try the other side and don't have anyone to turn the wheel while I check if I can feel it over there too right now.

Will do, I'll have to wait until someone else gets here to check the other side and get back to you

You can feel it on both sides and doesn't look like there is any bolts on the steering rag joint unless I'm missing something

On the rag joint, you may have to turn the steering wheel to see the bolts. The bolts will be at the universal joins.

You mentioned you can feel it on both sides. If you have the car jacked up, and have someone shake each tire back and forth, put your hand on the lower ball joint and outter tie rod joints at the steering knuckle. Can you feel more play in one of those than the others?
