2 months ago, I replaced alternator (ProStart Remanufactured Alternator from PepBoys) and battery. Did so immediately after driving home from hardware store one morning and car shut down on me while driving- only after dashboard battery light and a few other dash lights turned on for a couple miles prior to shutdown. Car wouldn't restart while on side of road. I was within walking distance to parts store so I purchased new battery, installed it on side of road. Car started right up after putting new battery in, but battery light was still on. I got home and immediately used our other car to get to parts store for new alternator.
All signs, from my experience pointed to a failed alternator that drained battery.
Car was running smoothly up until about a week ago. What seemed like alternator whining noise started happening. Yesterday, battery light came on again on my wife while driving. She b-lined home, car didn't shut down on her.
Bad alternator? Possible voltage regulator?
My car has 135000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
