Hello Jan, Nice to meet you! I am sorry to hear about your steering issue. I will do my best to help you with this. Did you have any recent power steering work done before this happened?

I was looking for parts and labor. I recently bought this Infiniti from a dealer, took to an Infiniti dealer for diagnosis of the whine. He said that Infiniti was aware of the problem and said a new power steering resevoir was needed. He said it would cost about 750 dollars to fix.

If it's just the Reservoir, the part is like 80 bucks with one hour labor. How ever, if it had steering work done, the valve at the bottom of the Reservoir may simply be stuck. I normally would try to pull up the Reservoir to release it and turn it on it's side and tap it with a hammer on the bottom while someone turns the wheel to see if it frees up and stops making noise.

the part they suggested was a new reservoir. Online the cost is 250 for the part

You are right. New is around 220. You can get one used for much less if you wanted to try that. But I would try tapping the bottom of it to see if it clears up before changing it.
