Hi, I have 2 different sets of tires on my car and was told I can't get an alignment. Mechanic's Assistant: How old are the tires? And have they been a problem in the past? The oldest were bought in May and the newest were just purchased this week. Front Pass Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? Nissan Altima 2012 Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Altima yourself? What have you tried so far? Well we took it in to get the new tires and to get it aligned and the store said that with the tires that we have on here we can't get an alignment Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? Do you need the tire size? Both sets are 18's

Hello and thank you for using JustAnswer. My name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I will do my best to assist you.. I help many customers, so sometimes my replies are delayed, I will respond once available. During this conversation you will be given an automated offer for a phone call. You may accept or decline that offer.I don’t personally offer this service so if you take this another tech may call. If its a different or newer tire from right to left then they are correct, the diameter is different and would cause weird readings, you would want the same size diameter tires on front and then rear. they must be a directional tire or something weird and con not be rotated im guessing. so if all that criteria is met then you can get a alignment.

are the front tires the same brand and bought at the same time?

Same brand, but they were bought months apart. The older ones were bought in May and we just bought the newest ones this week
Automotive Expert
thats prob why then because the tire tread diameter is different. they are declining because they dont want any come back issues, you may try another shop and just let them know you wont cause any problems with come back or tire wear issues.

What are the problems it could cause?
Automotive Expert
pulling and tire wear issues from inaccurate readings, so basically the diameter difference gives the machine a false reading and your alignment isnt set perfectly

it's something we could work with? Or it it smarter to just get new tires?
Automotive Expert
if the rears are the same and bought at the same time I would just rotate front to back and then you should be able to drive that way and get a alignment.

do I ask for that before mentioning the different tires diameter?
Automotive Expert
I would just mention the whole thing and see if they will work with you

Ok, thank you so much. I appreciate your time and assistance
