I have a 2006 Altima, i recently got a oil change and now the car won’t move in drive but will drive in gears 1,2 and it will reverse Mechanic's Assistant: How old is the transmission? Have you checked the [brake](/topics-brake-nissan/) switch? The transmission was replaced about a year ago, i have not checked the brake switch Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Altima yourself? What have you tried so far? So far I purchased a shift solenoid to have that replaced but nothing else Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? No that’s it

So did you check your Transmission Fluid Level to make sure the transmission fluid level is good?

that's good, but i recently got an oil change and a few days later i noticed it was a jerk to go into drive but it drove normal. Then the next day I put it in drive and it seemed as if the car was in neutral. It's moves regularly in reverse as well as 1 and 2
Automotive Expert
You had the oil change done by a shop?

No unfortunately I had it done by a mechanic who no longer works in a shop
Automotive Expert
I am thinking they drained the wrong fluid and possibly put the wrong fluid in the transmission which is now causing your transmission issue. I would have a transmission shop check this for you. This certain sounds like a transmission issue

Okay I'll go have someone check it out! I was thinking it was the shift solenoid but the issue happened so suddenly
Automotive Expert
It is possible, but it would need to be checked to verified. This is certainly is a transmission issue

Okay thank you
Automotive Expert
you are very welcome and thank you for using justanswer.com Best Regards, Jay!

How do I use recirculation mode?
Recirculation mode is a way of recycling air within your vehicle. Rather than introducing air from outside of your car, recirculation mode recirculates the air that is already in your vehicle. To turn on recirculation mode, press the recirculation button,...
Knock sensor keeps setting off
I would recommend clearing the P0328 code (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p0328-obd-ii-trouble-code-knock-sensor-1-circuit-high-input-by-spencer-clayton) and then see if the code returns. If the code returns and the engine does not have any knocking noise, then test and replace the knock sensor and retest the system. If...
Engine makes a grinding noise when I try to crank it
This sounds like the starter is not engaging (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/starter-or-car-battery-how-to-diagnose-which-part-is-bad) the flywheel or the flywheel teeth are missing. I would try jumping the battery first to see if this makes a difference. If it does and the engine turns over okay...
Is it possible to install my broken serpentine belt back my car?
Hi, thanks for writing in. I'm a little confused by your question. If you're asking whether it's possible to install a broken serpentine belt (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-replace-a-serpentine-belt-by-mia-bevacqua) on a vehicle and drive 20 miles, I'd say not. If the belt is physically...
My engine light was on so I took my vehicle to auto zone and got a p0014 code read. It says the exhaust camshaft positioning timing is over advanced. Can you help?
Hi there: The P0014 is the OBD-II generic code (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p0014-obd-ii-trouble-code-camshaft-position-b-timing-over-advanced-or-system-performance-bank-1-by-jay-safford) that the engine control module (ECM) has determined that the bank 1 exhaust camshaft is more advanced than what the ECM has commanded it be. This over-advanced condition could be...
Does it harm my car to shift from reverse to drive while the car is still in motion?
Hi there. In short - YES, shifting into reverse gear while the vehicle is in forward motion is not good for the transmission. The reverse gear needs to engage when the motor is at lower idle RPM and can seriously...
I can't shift into any gear
It sounds like you may have a throwout bearing that is hanging up. When the car is not running, nothing within the transmission is spinning, thus it is possible to put the car in gear. With the engine running, there...
Car temp reading hot but not overheating
Hi Jennifer. One of the most common causes of an engine that runs hotter than normal is due to air bubbles in the cooling system. If repairs were made to the radiator and the replacement coolant was not correctly bled...
