Hi Rori, it's nice to meet you. Is there any oil leaking from the head gaskets at this time?

No not at all, but they suggested because of the mileage i could be better off getting the head gasket replaced at the same time as they reseal the camshafts...do you think it is worth it. Its all coming to $3000- and they would need the car for 3 weeks if thy do that as well.My back struts have been replaced already as well, everything else has been done, transmission, [spark plugs](/topics-spark-plug/), the car is in good shape at 122,000=but I'm just wondering if I should do head gasket as well along with camshaft leak repair
Automotive Expert
This model isn't known for a lot of head gasket failures. I would have them only do the timing cover and the cam seals and call it good. In this particular case and since you really don't have anything leaking from those gaskets, I am going to say decline that work

Awesome. But when they take your engine out and keep it in the shop, how safe is it that they keep things together with that engine? Im nervous that I get back some new problem. It would be a week or two
Automotive Expert
We keep them separate and all the parts we remove with that engine. You might end up with a different issue, but it won't be due to the wrong parts or some part from some other engine going back into yours.

Okay thanks. O appreciate your help. Is there a way i can keep your name as 'my go to advisor' for my Subaru?
Automotive Expert
You can "like" me I believe after you rate my answer. Otherwise I am not sure, it's not my site I just work on it.

Okay, but you have no idea how much you have helped,me. My car is my work horse, how bad is it for me to wait until spring to do this work? The leaking is only when the engine is really hot on long trips.
Automotive Expert
If you keep track of the oil level, you should be fine to be honest.

Okay, so O am not ruining the engine with oil leaks inside compartments ?Sorry O should be I.
Automotive Expert
No, not really, I mean you might be leaking a bit into the timing chain cover, but there should be oil in there to keep the chain lubed up.

Ok and it won't hurt the camshaft chambers either?
Automotive Expert
No, there aren't cam chambers, so you won't even notice any difference, you just want to keep the oil topped up.

Thank you so much Mike. I need to get a class in car mechanics 101! ,appreciate tour help.
