Q: my mini cooper 2004 has been overheating and rattling

asked by on December 16, 2017

just bought a 2004 mini cooper from private seller. first day it drove fine. Since then within 10 minutes the car completely overheats, the engine overworks and the cars rpm jumps to 5 or 6. I have stppped to add water to the radiator reserve many times in the last two days. I believe the radiator has a leak, or that there is a cooling system problem. When the car begins overheating the car lurches and rattles and cant be pushed above 25-30mpg. I want to get a specific diagnosis as to what my cars problem is and a general estimate to the cost of repairs.

My car has 148000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

You might be spot on about the radiator, or there may be a leak somewhere in the system that you can’t see. The mini has a pretty complicated system so there are a lot of possibilities. I think you should stop driving the cart until you have this checked out. If the car is overheating and you are not in a place where you can shut down right away, you can do a lot of damage. contact Your Mechanic to have a technician come out to your home or office to check out your overheating problem and let you know what can be done for it.
