I’m having an issue with my 2008 Mercedes c230. The problem was first noticed when turning left at a light; the car seemed to be in what I’ve read about to be ‘Limp mode’? Automotive Expert
Hello David, sorry you are having issues with the C class, i will do what I can to help. reading over your story, im unclear to the actual issue you are having. Limp mode is when you have an electrical failure, the car is limited in not only speed but engine speed and transmission gears as well.

Yeah I can only accelerate A minimum speed but the RPMs just go right up
Automotive Expert
That is not limp mode thats a transmission failure.

I need a whole new transmission?
Automotive Expert
I don’t know that, but anytime the Rpm’s climb and you have no acceleration that means youre low on fluid or have an internal transmission failure. First thing is to have codes checked for transmission fault codes. Second is to verify fluid level.

How can I check fluid level without draining the transmission fluid?
Automotive Expert
You cant. You check it by filling it. Its impossible to verify the quantity in there, its eaiser to just fill it and check it per the process. Then if the issue persists, well you know its not fluid level.

Thank you Lou I will do this and check
Automotive Expert
Best of luck, be safe and have a happy new year. Thank you, Lou
