Front end bounces when applying brakes. 07 gmc sierra. I just changed brake pads. I put 20 inch rims on it. It had 17 inch rims before. Didn't have problem with 17s on it. Mechanic's Assistant: How old are the rotors? How many miles are on the GMC? 199,000. Not sure on rotors but had no problem until I put bigger rims Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model of your '07 GMC? Seirra 1500 Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Sierra 1500 yourself? What have you tried so far? Yes. Nothing yet. I'm thinking struts may be bad and bigger rim is causing it. Didn't happen until I put bigger rims on it

HI Joe, it's nice to meet you. Do you feel shaking in the steering wheel or is the front of the truck actually bouncing up and down?

Truck is bouncing. Steering wheel isn't shaking like warped rotors

Ok, I would have to agree the place to start would have to be the shocks. I am not sure why the larger wheels would cause the issue, but if your positive it's not the brake rotors, I have to agree with you and start with the shocks and take it from there.

The only reason I don't believe it is rotors is because it didn't do it with the smaller rims on it.I'm assuming my struts are bad and because of heavier wheels I can now feel itI'm ordering Powerstop brake calipers, rotors, and pads along with new struts. I'm sure the struts have never been changed. I was just curious if you had ever run into this problem before
Automotive Expert
The only time I've run into the issue is if the wheels weren't torqued properly and it caused the rotors to warp. Sometimes rust can get in between the hub and the rotor and when you tighten the wheel it causes the warpage. This would be why it didn't have it with the smaller rims.

Good point. I'll just replace everything I said I was ordering. I have to remove struts to put 2 inch lift on for bigger rims and tires so they don't rubThanks for the help
