Tonight I was driving my 2005 mustang it has 46,000 miles and it’s also manual. The car has been sitting out for some time from previous owner. I noticed a few things 1) being that I have to start the car with the clutch all the way down to the ground 2) sometimes I have trouble starting it now 3) today the check [engine](/topics-engine-ford/) light came on and I could not go past 40 on 5 gear my car wasn’t pushing and it seemed like it was trying then the check engine light came on and my car started smoking Mechanic's Assistant: Does the light stay on, or does it blink? It blinked and turned off Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model of your '05 car? Ford mustang Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Mustang yourself? What have you tried so far? I have a personal mechanic but he is a few hours away and is old fashioned doesn’t answer phone calls . But he changed the [fuel injector](/topics-fuel-injector-ford/) and said the clutch was fine Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? The car won’t go forward after letting the clutch go more than half way

Howdy from Tennessee, I'm Chris aka Moose. Who am I helping today? I'm glad you've come here to get help. I will do my best to get the answer you are looking for. I help many customers, so sometimes my replies are delayed, I will respond once available. I try to be online at 1-5 pm and 10 pm-5 am every day. On the clutch pedal bracket is a switch for allowing the engine to crank when the clutch is pressed. It appears this switch is faulty or its bracket is bent causing the inability to crank unless the pedal is on the floor. The CEL on means there are codes stored. If you can get me those codes it would help a lot. It seems so far that it is related to a misfire based on the explanation of the symptoms. Thank you for seeking us for help, I hope I provided what was needed. Press reply if you need to follow up. If you liked my answer please let me know so I can mark your question complete. Moose

Checking in with you. Please let me know if you liked my answer, or need more help.

I did and actually I had a mechanic look at it and mentioned these things. It ended up being a [coolant](/topics-coolant-ford/) leak which is why the engine was smoking and giving off a bad smell that night

What others are asking

Car cranks, but will not start.
No start conditions are some of my favorite to diagnose. A car needs 3 things to run. Gas, air and spark. If one of those is missing the magic doesn't happen. We know you have fuel in your tank, but...
How do I use the automatic climate control defroster?
The defroster helps increase your visibility when the windshield has become foggy or frosty. To turn on the defroster, press the Defrost Level button.
OBD sensor not reading scanner
This sounds like there is no power to the data bus network. This means that the OBD2 plug on your vehicle is not being powered by the battery. I would enlist the help of a qualified technician to find a wiring...
Intake manifold stuck open
I'm guessing that you mean your throttle body is stuck open? These vehicles are known for having problems with their throttle bodies. I would ask for help from one of the mechanics at YourMechanic to come and examine your vehicle...
Oil in coolant
First, you have to determine if it is engine oil or transmission fluid. If you have an automatic transmission, then there is a heat exchanger in your radiator. Transmission fluid runs there in two hoses. If it cracks, you will...
Why is my power steering fluid leaking?
The first thing to do is to make sure the fluid is full in the power steering reservoir. Since you recently replaced a lot of components in the system I would recommend cleaning the area that is wet with fluid...
My engine died while driving and now won't start.
Hello. Stalling can be caused by a wide variety of issues. If it was previously known that there was an issue with the main fuel pump relay then I would start there. Any issues with the fuel pump relay can...
Car shaking, Check Engine light on ,brakes are not performed completely, vehicule doesn't take off as easy before 1999 Lexus RX300
Hi there - most likely, your power brake booster has failed (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-replace-a-power-brake-booster). This booster uses engine vacuum to provide braking assist. When the brake booster fails, it both allows air into the engine intake that is unmetered by engine management...
Intake manifold vacuum solenoid
Hi there. The other end of the vacuum line attaches to a male fitting on the intake manifold runner control. However, since we can't attach photos showing you the location specifically, and without being there to show you in person,...
