I switched out my 2018 EcoBoost mustang automatic shifter with one that is from ford and for my specific car and now it wont start Mechanic's Assistant: Does the vehicle have a fuse that enables or disables the shifter? Yes I had to disconnect it for taking it apart but i connected it when I added a new one Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Mustang yourself? What have you tried so far? The first time I tried to turn it one it sounded like the [engine](/topics-engine-ford/) wouldn't start and it then my car alarm went off so I turned it off with the key alarm button , ever since that time now when i try again to turn it on it will barely make the clicking sounds and now the car wont even lock Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? The electronic key now wont lock it either

It sounds like the battery is weak after taking the shifter apart and putting it back together, If you had the door open, it could drain the battery. Try to jump start the car, make sure you have a good connection with the donor car and leave them attached for about 15 minutes, then attempt to start it. Please try this and let me know. Thank you.

I did that but it didn't workShould I get a new battery?

I think you should take the battery and have it tested. If you have it tested at a parts store, they should be able to tell you if it's good or not and should be replaced.

After checking for the proper fuel pressure, have an experienced technician inspect the ignition systems, crankshaft position sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/crankshaft-position-sensor-replacement) and distributor pickup coils.
