If it was a title and you both signed it where you should then the car is legally transferred in most states. whether he registers the vehicle or not doesn't matter to you but usually a buyer is required to within a certain time frame. if it was just a bill of sale then he could have thrown it out the window and if neither of you signed the actual title then it's legally still your car. Oh wow! Yes, that's no joke. If the ticket is in your name you need to probably speak to a lawyer who deals with that. At this point it's not a title/DMV issue it's a legal one. I would say you could also speak to your local police department but I don't know all the details so I would say a lawyer can direct you to the best course of action before doing that. See if there is a lawyer on here with experience in your states applicable laws. If not, most lawyers offer a free in person consult.
