Is it possible when you lose a key to 2002 Ford Expedition with the pats system, to replace the brain and get a another key cut so that you don't have to use a key with chip any longer.

I know you just answered my question about the 20 amp for the fuel pump but the reason I was needing that is because my husband tells me that he changed the brain out so that the PAT system no longer works. And I just want to make sure I'm covering all my bases.

Howdy from Tennessee, I'm Chris aka Moose. Who am I helping today? I'm glad you've come here to get help. I will do my best to get the answer you are looking for. I help many customers, so sometimes my replies are delayed, I will respond once available. I try to be online at 1-5 pm and 10 pm-5 am every day. To get a vehicle that no longer has nor uses the PATS anti-theft system. You would need to install a custom-built PCM that does not have PATS or remove the PATS transceiver in hte steering column and attach a programmed key to it so you can use non-chipped keys. With the key in the RUN position, if the battery voltage is near 12.6 volts, the check [engine](/topics-engine-ford/) light is on, the theft light is flashing rapidly 2-3 times per second. That can indicate the vehicle does still have PATS and the system is triggered and will disable the ability to start. Thank you for seeking us for help, I hope I provided what was needed. Press reply if you need to follow up. If you liked my answer please let me know so I can mark your question complete. Moose

Well the Anti-Theft light is rapidly flashing so maybe the system is still in place? What would be your suggestion for me to try first, change the fuel pump fuse? That is what my husband recommended. It won't turn over at all so I thought it needed to be reset, the anti theft system I mean. And I believe I know how to do that just from watching YouTube videos

Step one will be to connect a scan tool and see if there are codes stored indicating the theft system is triggered. Also, make sure the battery voltage is good.

Doesn't the vehicle have to be cranked up to connect a scan tool? Because I can't get it to crank up it won't turn over
Automotive Expert
The key needs to bein the RUN position to use a scan tool.

I'm sorry for not getting back with you sooner. I've had some family issues that have pulled me completely away from my issues with the expedition. Now I'm back on it trying to pick up where I left off. I'm trying to do this by myself with the exception of a friend who's trying to help me but it's a little confusing to him because I truly don't know where the problem lies to begin other than it's somethingto do with the pats system for sure and possibly something else. I need to know if the 2002 Ford Expedition calls for a specific type of battery?

No, it does not take a special battery specifically designed for your vehicle. They sell plenty of them at the local Auto Zone.
