Thank you JJ Wilson. Does the serpentine belt under the hood move or turn when you try to crank the [engine](/topics-engine-ford/)?

Without knowing all of the information like the vehicle history, the components that have been tested or replaced, the results of any tests that need to be run and without being there myself looking at the vehicle, it is hard to say exactly what is going on. I can only give you a general answer, but I hope this helps. If the engine makes a whining sound when cranking this could be a few different things. First of all we need to check to see if the crankshaft is turning. You can do this by watching the serpentine belt as an assistant crank the engine over. If the serpentine belt is not turning on cranking this could be an issue with the flywheel or the starter itself. If you just replace the starter you could have a faulty new starter or a cracked flywheel. If the serpentine belt is turning on cranking and it's making a whining sound, this could be a sign of no compression due to a timing chain issue or a base and a mechanical issue. Just be sure the battery, cables and connections and all engine and frame grounds check out good. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to help you. I really appreciate your patience through this process. My goal is to provide you with excellent service. If you have follow-up questions on this same topic, please use the reply box below.
