So there are several things it could be, the first thing to check on is the MAF and the air tube from the air filter to the throttle body, check for cracks in the tube. Other things to look for are the EGR system and check the CAT. for blockage.

Just purchased the vehicle from a friend. He had the CAT checked and it was fine. Cleaned the throttle body, MAF, and inspected the air tube last night as well as changed plugs and wires. Have not checked the EGR system.

It will most likely make the CEL to come on ,but try driving it with the EGR vacuum hose unplugged to see how it does.
