Q: Engine overheating and making awful sounds. Already replaced water pump, thermostat, upper radiator hose and radiator

asked by on July 29, 2017

The temperature gauge fluctuates between 245 and 260. We already replaced the thermostat, upper radiator hose, radiator and water pump. After we replaced the water pump, it was still overheating and then started making a grinding sort of noise. It squeals as well, but I figured that was due to the serpentine belt getting wet. It now makes the horrible sound plus continues to overheat per the temperature gauge. The sound seems to be coming from the same side as the water pump. I've researched a couple of other things that could cause the problem but I can't narrow it down. I've read that the timing chain and the oil pump going bad can both cause the problems I am experiencing. Should I try replacing both of these?
