Sound coming from under hood. When i decelerate slowly or reach desired speed If i throw it in neutral stops or if i give it more gas or if i stop faster Mechanic's Assistant: Have you noticed an increase in fuel consumption? And how does the vehicle start—same as usual? Same Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? 2014 dodge ram laramie Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Ram yourself? What have you tried so far? No im not Transmission guy says engine. Engine guys says transmission. It runs smooth other than that. No lights on dash either

Good Afternoon, my name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* ill be helping you, so sorry to hear about the issues here on the Ram. I know how frustrating it can be to deal with strange noises. If the noise stops when you shift into neutral it will be a transmission related issue since when in neutral the transmission is disengaged but the engine keeps running. Since its intermittent and just a noise i would start with checking the fluid level and condition first and inspect for any metal or [clutch](/topics-clutch-dodge/) material that would indicate mechanical failure. All things considered this will be a transmission issue with how it responds to being in neutral.

I brought it to the transmission place they said its not transmission?
Automotive Expert
i would find another transmission place for a second opinion. like i mentioned the noise stopping when in neutral indicates that it is transmission related

Hooked it up to the computerYa but it stops if i accelerate too?
Automotive Expert
i suspect a mechanical issue so a computer would not tell you much. they likely just checked for codes and didnt run full diagnostics on the noise, by all the symptoms you have it sounds like a transmission issue to me.

Oh okThank yiu
