Just did a motor swap on my 02 5.9 gas Dodge [Ram 1500](/topics-ram-1500/) it ran for about 20 min and then took it out for a drive mile down the road gauges stoped working and every it has no spark or anything Mechanic's Assistant: Have you noticed an increase in fuel consumption? And how does the Ram 1500 start—same as usual? It’s a crank but no start now Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Ram 1500 yourself? What have you tried so far? Well I swapped the computer from the parts truck to see if it would work but it don’t still just cranks Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? No that’s everything

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer! I’m sorry to hear you’re having an issue with your truck after all that work! It sounds like maybe the crank sensor wires or the distributor wires may have got pinched in between the transmission bell housing and engine and now is shorting the 5 volt supply circuit which will cause this. Can you visually inspect the top section of the bell housing to see if the wires got pinched in between the transmission and engine? Let me know and we’ll take it from here. Thank you, Richard

You don’t think it’s in security do you ?Security mode\*
Automotive Expert
No I don't think it's related to the security system. I have seen this problem before after engine swaps. It's very easy to get those wires pinched because they are on top and hard to see if your're not looking out for that. My goal is to provide you with excellent service. If you're satisfied with my assistance, your 5-star rating at this time is appreciated. If you have any further questions feel free to ask! Thank you, Richard

Okay I’ll let you know how it goes
Automotive Expert
Sounds good! Good luck! Thank you, Richard

I don’t even hear the fuel pump when I turn the key
Automotive Expert
Yes and you won't if those wires are pinched, cut and the 5 volt supply is shorted to ground. When the 5 volt supply gets shorted to ground, it takes down the PCM and you won't have gauges, the fuel pump won't energize and etc.

OkayEven if it the crank sensor is bad it’ll cause all those problems
Automotive Expert
Yes, if the crank sensor is damaged and shorted internally or the wires are cut and shorted to ground it will take down the 5 volt supply and PCM will be unresponsive.

Okay I’ll check it out
Automotive Expert
Perfect, thank you! Please let me know!

Can you tell me what p1491 for the radiator fan circuit relay is
Automotive Expert
That code usually sets when the condenser fan fuse blows, it's fuse #39. I would check this fuse and see if it's burnt.
