My ignition starts completely. But my steering wheel is locked Mechanic's Assistant: Have you applied constant pressure to the steering wheel while turning the key in the ignition? Pressure in a certain direction? Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? 2004 Dodge Neon SXT Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Neon yourself? What have you tried so far? I am not working on my car. So far I have tried cutting it on and turning it but even though the car cuts on the steering wheel won’t turn. How do I apply pressure to the wheel?

are the wheels outside sitting straight? are they hitting the curb or no? mileage on the car ? you can still crank it and the car starts but the steering wheel does not turn correct? **Are you looking for the most possible causes or you are repairing it yourself .** **Please Let Me Know** **Thank You** **Chad Farhat** **ASE Certified Technician**

The wheels are straight. They are not hitting the curb. 131830 miles. The car cuts on completely but the steering wheel can't turn. It has wiggle room but won't actually turn completely.I'm looking for what's wrong with it
Automotive Expert
ok good Have you tried wiggling the Key at the same time while Turning the steering wheel, left and right in rocking motion with some fair force

Do I wiggle while the car is on or offOr while I turn it onThat doesn't seem to be working either
Automotive Expert
Then that leaves a locked up Bearing inside the steering column click on link to view pdf file and exploded view of it let me know if you can view it

I can
Automotive Expert
You probably can buy a used one from a junkyard and replace the steering column part where the bearing is ? the ignition switch lock part needs to be inspected as well, you will have to remove it to get to the steering column,so u can check it I then Prior to this happening , WHERE YOU HEARING CLICKING WHEN TURN STEERING WHEEL?

I hadn't heard any clicking at all
Automotive Expert
ok, well not necessarily you will hear it but sometimes they make clicking prior take it apart and see what you have Please Read Below How to Get Back in touch with Me You Can Always Come Back to this Conversation and Ask Me any Follow up Question you May have on this Issue (You can Copy this Link Page & Paste it in your Browser when Ready and it will Open up our Conversation Again) or there should be a Tab on your Screen to Add me As Your Favorite Expert I'm Online Daily from 7 Am Till Late Eastern Time Zone Thank You?Chad Farhat?ASE Certified Technician

Ok thanks, \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I do from here? As in what's my next step? I had actually planned to take it to a shop soon but of course now I can't move
Automotive Expert
I would take to shop first and have the ignition switch and steering column bearing checked, and if bad switch you can buy new but if it steering column he can get you one from local junkyard or online around $150 fro switch parts and labor and if the steering column, around $275 You are very Welcome If you need my assistance in the future, Start your Question with (FOR CHAD FARHAT ONLY) or Go to my profile page You can also add me as Favorite expert for any future questions [http://www.justanswer.com/car/expert-chadfarhat/?rpt=3800](//www.justanswer.com/car/expert-chadfarhat/?rpt=3800)

Automotive Expert
yes you can tow on tow truck with wheel lift and pick up from front or a flatbed tow truck will do also
